Asset Standards - AMP 5 and Beyond

  18/02/2010
After four AMPs that have focused largely on creating work programmes to meet environmental quality requirements, AMP 5 is posing some tricky questions that will demand innovative responses from the water companies and the regulator. This conference will discuss the conundrums to be faced during the current AMP period and to share experiences and approaches that will help ensure that innovation is encouraged, whilst maintaining a focus on efficiency and carbon reduction.

The organisers of the conference are currently inviting papers on a range of topics, including:

  • The impact and opportunity arising from handling an increasingly complex wastewater; Our sewer networks are being inundated with non-biodegradable plastic waste from domestic and industrial sources which places additional stress on screening and pumping assets. This issue is intensified by an overall reduction in site-based staff in recent years as companies strive for more automated systems at the expense of reduced manpower. Is this strategy realistic in 2010 and beyond or will it lead to a heightened, unacceptable level of operational risk?

  • Accounting for climatic variation; Pumping stations are increasingly becoming causalities during more frequent, prolonged flood events. How does this impact the asset life and how can we cope?

  • Fats/Oils and Grease, opportunity or cost?

Presentations are invited from those with experience in this area - if you are interested in speaking please submit a brief abstract to franceswoodhead@aquaenviro.co.uk by Thursday 25th February 2010. Sponsorship and exhibition opportunities are also available.
