Wallingford User Conference Success

  16/10/2009
The 10th annual Wallingford Software User Conference, the company’s first major event since it joined forces with MWH Soft, has been hailed as a major success by industry experts. The opening address by EMEA Operations Director Andrew Brown highlighted the synergies of the combined companies in terms of both product portfolio and operations. Keynote speakers included Professor David Balmforth of MWH (UK) Ltd, David Fortune and Stuart Dodd of Wallingford Software and John Hateley of Severn Trent Water.

The two-day event on 15th and 16th September at Reading, UK, attracted record attendance and presented another prime opportunity for water resources engineers to network, learn, and find inspiration with colleagues from around the globe.

The event featured a packed schedule of presentations on a variety of stimulating, informative topics, including:
• Urban Flood Risk Management
• 1D and 2D Coupling
• Reservoir Inundation Modeling (RIM)
• The Impact of Network Simplification on Property Flood Risk Projections
• Surface Water Management Planning
• Network Models as Asset Management Tools
• Advanced Sewer Modeling Techniques
• Critical Link Analysis
• Leakage Modeling in InfoWorks WS
• Efficient Drainage Management

Also offered were parallel “What’s New” and “Tips and Tricks” workshops for InfoWorks CS/RS and InfoNet asset management software. The presentations stimulated debate during the conference’s many networking sessions and social events.

“It was a great opportunity to connect with our customers face-to-face so soon after the exciting news about us coming together with MWH Soft,” said Brown. “While it’s always a pleasure to spend time with old friends and make new ones, the conference also gave us an opportunity to explain how our new partnership will work. Our combined product range represents an awesome and powerful suite of tools that even more fully meet our global customers’ needs. The new developments we plan to roll out in 2010 will offer even more integrated solutions that enhance water modeling and asset management capabilities at every turn.

“At the conference, we also heard some great examples of how our newly extended InfoNet, with its complete office-to-field mobile capability, delivers an even greater return on investment. The days when a custom asset management solution was considered superior to comprehensive products like InfoNet are over.”

Milivoj Kojic of Mouchel, who gave an informative presentation on InfoWorks WS in everyday use, said, “The conference provides a great opportunity to see what is going on in the industry. As a consultant, I like to see the latest technologies and explore how they can facilitate my everyday work. I also appreciate the fact that this event features presentations from both clients and Wallingford's technical staff. I use the tips and tricks regularly, and I’m able to get to know what is going on with our clients. The multifaceted benefits of this conference are invaluable.”

Martin Allitt of Richard Allitt Associates Ltd gave a well-attended presentation on different modeling approaches to coupling the 1D and 2D domains within the same model. “This conference has grown dramatically over the past few years,” he said. “I was pleased and impressed to see a new audience this year alongside more recognized faces. The two days were filled with insights. I was especially interested to learn more about the integration of CS and RS, and to see how broadly InfoNet capabilities can be applied in asset management and planning.”

“I’m deeply honored by the opportunity to work with all the employees, partners, and customers of Wallingford Software,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, Hon.D.WRE, President and COO of MWH Soft. “Our 10th annual conference was a resounding success — one that demonstrates the passion, dedication and commitment of our great modeling community to build, operate, and sustain better hydraulic infrastructures and make the world a better place.”
