‘Consider Water at Copenhagen'

  09/09/2009
Water experts have called for water issues to be included in the international climate talks to take place in Copenhagen in December. The experts, gathered in Stockholm for the annual World Water Week conference, issued a closing statement which in large part echoed the findings of a report released by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development in March.

The Stockholm statement said that water was a key medium through which the impacts of climate change would be felt. It urged the global water and climate communities to look beyond Copenhagen in December and work together to strengthen collective action on water and adaptation.

This should include, but not be limited to, better sharing of knowledge and technology to support adaptation in developing countries, where water, climate change and poverty reduction are all linked.
