Deltas in Climate Change Conference

The Dutch research programmes Climate changes Spatial Planning and Knowledge for Climate, the City of Rotterdam and the Co-operative Programme on Water and Climate are hosting the conference Deltas in Times of Climate Change, to be held in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) from 29 September to 1 October 2010.
Two days of the conference will be dedicated to science, one day to policy issues and international cooperation between Delta institutions. The conference pursues three main goals:
exchange of up-to-date top science on climate change and delta planning
strengthening of international cooperation between deltas and delta cities
exploring and strengthening the links between science, policy and practitioners at international level
Themes to be discussed include: subsidence, sea level rise, climate change and spatial planning, flood risk management, salt water intrusion, urban heat island effect, governance and innovative policy instruments for planning and decision making. The call for papers will be sent out in October.
In a TEDx WWF session held in Geneva, Switzerland, Stuart Orr talked about water which is a solvable crisis. Stuart Orr is freshwater programme director for WWF International.
