EUR 47 Million Environment-related Orders

  04/06/2008
Imtech has received orders for technical solutions in environment-related markets in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. The orders, in the sewage and water industries, are worth more than EUR 47 million in total. Imtech is rapidly developing into a strong player in this growing market segment where technology is increasingly being used to meet stringent environmental requirements.

Imtech (Imtech Infra) has been commissioned by the Dutch cities of Utrecht and Breda to develop and implement integral sewer control systems. The solution includes a central control unit, the communications infrastructure (including telecommunications), electrical components, a high-tech operating system and an automated metering network for a total of almost 500 pumping stations, pump houses and pressure pumps. This integrated solution will make it possible to use the sewer system far more efficiently and to eliminate almost entirely overflow discharges into surface water, thus satisfying the stringent European environmental legislation.

The concept developed by Imtech is a unique solution. Instead of a closed system, Imtech has devised a modular system based on an open architecture using standard components. This makes upgrading, modification or expansion relatively simple, as well as technical management and maintenance. Consequently, this Imtech technology is widely usable and represents a breakthrough in the market.

In the UK, Imtech (Imtech Process) has been selected by regional water company Three Valley Water of Hatfield as a preferred supplier for the environment-friendly expansion, upgrading and treatment of dozens of wastewater treatment systems in northeast London. Deliverables include new pump technology, UV disinfection, hypochloride treatment and improvement of drainage systems.

Regional water company Sutton & East Surrey Water of Surrey (immediately south of London) has chosen Imtech as its technology partner to increase the water treatment capacity of an open water storage facility to 70 million litres per day. Among other things Imtech will provide new pump technology, disinfection and treatment systems, absorption technology, cleansing systems, filters and a new control system.

Columbia Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade

John Dooley, director of utilities and engineering for the City of Columbia (US), talks about a USD40 million project for the city's Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant. The capacity will increase to 150 million gallons/day (now 80 million gallons), and the pumping facility is to be relocated on the property. Requests for quotes are being prepared to be published soon.
