New Approach to Water Protection Explained

Staff from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) are taking the opportunity to work in partnership with a number of other consultation events running these days in Argyll. These events will enable individuals interested in the water environment to meet staff and ask questions on Scotland\'s River Basin Management Plan and the supplementary Argyll and Lochaber Area Management Plan, both of which are currently out for public consultation.
 

 

It is hoped that the consultation events which run into the evening will attract locals who are interested in the future of the rivers, streams and burns throughout Argyll and Lochaber, with the attendees being encouraged to respond to the consultation.

Two river basin planning consultation events will be held in May and people are welcome to drop in at any time during the sessions.

  • Corran Halls, Oban 20 May 12 noon - 8pm.This is a joint consultation event with the Argyll Woodland and Forestry Strategy. This is being prepared by the Argyll and Bute Council - in partnership with the Forestry Commission for the Argyll and Bute area, excluding the National Park. As part of this consultation, views are being sought from all those with an interest in our woodlands and forests.

  • Aquilibrium Centre, Campbeltown 21 May, 12 noon - 8pm. This is a joint event with the Argyll Core Paths network and the Scottish Sustainable Marine Environment Initiative Clyde Pilot Project.

Columbia Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade

John Dooley, director of utilities and engineering for the City of Columbia (US), talks about a USD40 million project for the city's Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant. The capacity will increase to 150 million gallons/day (now 80 million gallons), and the pumping facility is to be relocated on the property.
