EU Ministers Offer 'Co-leadership'

  21/04/2009
European Union environment ministers said they would offer the United States and other developed nations "co-leadership" in the fight against global warming if they were to match the EU's ambitious emissions reduction goals later this year. EurActiv Czech Republic reports from Prague.

Meeting informally in Prague on 14-15 April, ministers from the 27-member bloc stressed that the EU was still the only region in the world that has adopted ambitious objectives on climate change after the adoption of a pakcage of measures in December last year.

Moreover, the EU has pledged to increase its 2020 emissions-reduction target from 20 to 30% if other industrialised nations, notably the US, commit to similar goals.
