Risk Reduction Water Partnership

  09/12/2008
What does the Dutch Water sector do in case of a disaster like the tsunami or the Hurricane Katrina? The Netherlands Water Partnership looks into the possibility of a Risk Reduction Water Partnership. Combining the expertise of the Dutch Water Sector and partners like the UN in specific teams to help prevent disasters or assist in the aftermath.

It is always difficult to bring the right people together and to ensure they have the right training and permits. For example, one company was ready to leave for Indonesia with water pumps after the Tsunami, but did not have the contacts to actually get there. The Risk Reduction Water Partnership could be a way to have people on standby before and after a disaster. A first working conference on the 16th of December will provide answers to the how, why and when of a partnership.
