| Kroff, has launched Kroff Lab Services, Inc. (KLS), including a renovated 4,100 square-foot facility in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, USA, featuring advanced equipment and a team of nine scientists who test and analyse water and wastewater primarily for customers in the oil and gas exploration industry, but also sectors as diverse as primary metals, manufacturing and facilities management. |
|
KLS aims to offer speed and precision in water analysis to support Kroff's growth and serve the company's partners and corporate clients. The lab focuses on fast, accurate and comprehensive analyses to identify water quality, compatibility with geological substrates, friction reduction (FR loop) performance, geochemical modelling for assessment of scaling potential, and microbiological analysis. Product development is focused primarily on frac fluid design for enhanced performance and 100% flowback reuse for reduced environmental impact in sensitive areas such as the Marcellus Shale region.
Technical and analytical support capabilities also include new product compatibility testing, deposit analysis, substrate wettability, interfacial tension studies, high temperature and high-pressure viscometry, charge analysis and particle size distribution analysis. KLS experts utilise analytical equipment for product development and management and to design proprietary systems for performance testing. Featured equipment includes two custom designed FR loops, ICP and gradient elution ion chromatography analyzers, FTIR, DCA Goniometer, Parr pressure reactors, UV-VIS scanning spectrophotometers, various digital viscometers, and advanced proprietary geochemical modelling software.
As general manager, Rey is responsible for all research and development as well as product management. He has worked in the water treatment industry for more than 30 years, including 11 years at Kroff. Before joining the company, he worked in research and development for Calgon Corporation, identifying and developing products for a variety of industrial applications. Rey holds 16 US patents and has five patents pending. He earned a Bachelor of Science in civil and environmental engineering from Lowell Technology Institute and a Master of Science in mineral science from The Pennsylvania State University. Rey is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the American Chemical Engineers Society, and the Association of Water Technologies.
