Order for Wastewater Re-use Application30/05/2011 |

| The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment has awarded an EUR1.2M order to Voltea for the development of CapDI for wastewater recycling. The funding is made from the Small Business Innovation Research Programme, wich issued a call for entrepreneurs to develop new solutions to help the Netherlands adapt to changes in climate and water. |
|
The order follows an EUR50k feasibility study in 2010, showing that CapDI technology can desalinate wastewater more efficiently than other competing technologies such as reverse osmosis. As a part of the upcoming project, Voltea is to build a full-scale treatment line using the technology, which will desalinate 5-10m3/h effluent from the Harnaschpolder wastewater treatment plant near Delft, The Netherlands. The goal of the project is to produce desalinated water that can be reused for irrigation of local greenhouses.
Reusing waterwater is more attractive in the agricultural sector as new restrictions bring limitations for using surface water for irrigation. Also, regulations regarding the quality of effluent discharged from wastewater treatment plants into rivers and the sea have been tighter.
