2nd EWWM Conference: Programme Established

The conference programme of the 2nd European Water and Wastewater Management (EWWM) Conference, to be held on 29 and 30 September 2008 in Birmingham (UK) has been established. In addition to the technical sessions delegates will also have the opportunity to participate in specialist workshops and panel debates.


These debates include:

Future water - the UK Government’s Water Strategy


This workshop will provide a unique forum for those working in the water industry to engage in dialogue with key government and industry charged with enacting this policy strategy.

Speakers include:


  • Cheryl Case, Head of the Water Strategy Team at DEFRA
  • David King, Director of Water Management at the Environment Agency

  • Nick Ellins, Head of Policy and Research at the Consumer Council for Water
  • Richard Critchley, PRO9 Water Supply Demand Manager, United Utilities

  • Mike Pocock, Head of Strategic Planning, Three Valleys Water PLC and Veolia Water



Discussion to be led by Professor Bob Breach, visiting professor at Cranfield University and former head of quality and environment at Severn Trent.



 

The Water Framework Directive - Will it Impact the Water Companies?

Panel debate led by Tony Harrington, Head of Environment, Yorkshire Water

. Delegates will have the opportunity to participate in this Panel led discussion.

Columbia Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade

John Dooley, director of utilities and engineering for the City of Columbia (US), talks about a USD40 million project for the city's Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant. The capacity will increase to 150 million gallons/day (now 80 million gallons), and the pumping facility is to be relocated on the property. Requests for quotes are being prepared to be published soon.
