Hair Collection for Gulf Oil Spill Booms

  17/05/2010
Matter of Trust is a charity that collects hair and alike fibres to make booms contributing cleaning up the Gulf of Mexico (US) oil spill. For this purpose, the organisation can use warehouses around the Gulf and is calling for individuals, salons, wool and alpaca farmers as well as individuals to send hair and fur. Doing so, damage to estuaries and fragile ecosystems in the Lousiana and Florida regions can be prevented.

Matter of Trust collection of hair

The principle is that hair is capable of collecting oil, thus contributing to cleaning the spill. With though hair collected, booms can be made of natural resources that normally would be wasted instead of the oil-based tools. Hair and wool is packed in tights and panties to form booms. The initiative turns out to create real community projects.

More information about the project and ways of collection are on the website of Matter of Trust.
