Abstracts and Keynote Speakers 4th EWWM

Aqua Enviro are inviting Abstracts for the 4th European Water and Wastewater Conference (EWWM) in September. The conference theme is "Reducing the Environmental Footprint of the Water Industry". Abstracts should be of 150 words and provide a broad outline of the theme of the presentation, the deadline is Friday 26th March 2010.

 

Across the spectrum of the water and wastewater treatment industry the provision of clean drinking water and safe sanitation carries a large environmental burden. In the UK, the carbon emissions from the industry are similar to that of the aviation industry. However a lot is being done to reduce this impact and the technological challenges this poses likely to lead to new opportunities for innovative businesses. Please see the website for more details.

"The Impact of Competition on the Regulation and Financing of Water Companies." keynote address will be given by Alan Sutherland, Chief Executive of the Water Commission for Scotland (WICS). Debating Innovation; Professor Issy Caffoor of Environmental Sustainability KTN considers "A Vision for a Low Carbon Water Industry 2050" and Professor Charles Ainger of MWH examines "Innovation - much more that R&D".

 

William Wilson, Barrister of Burges Salmon LLP will talk on "Integrating water law with the low carbon agenda" and Professor Simon Tait of the University of Bradford will discuss the theme of "The Sewer as a Solids Transport System". The 4th EWWM Conference takes place on 27-28 September 2010 at The Royal Armouries, Leeds

Seaswarm to Clear out Oil


When an oil spill occurs, the challenge is clearing out of the oil fast and secure. Seaswarm is a possible solution to this dilemma. Robotic cleaning instruments absorb the oil and move independently and autonomously. They can communicate between them and coordinate their actions.
