The importance of water is ever increasing in policy and business agendas. Water is essential to life - it is also a prerequisite for doing business, especially in sectors such as energy, transport, agriculture, (food) industry and tourism. Water challenges are growing around the world, a considerable part of the world's population lives in water-scarce countries and large areas of coasts and riversides face an increasing risk of flooding. Climate change further aggravates these challenges. The solution in solving these problems lies in (scientific) research and technology, and successfully implementing them in demanding circumstances.
