Linking Water, Energy & Climate Change

  21/05/2008
Side-event, 22 August 2008
Convenors: European Water Partnership (EWP) and Danish Hydrological Institute (DHI)

The links between water, energy and climate are important and complex. Energy production requires water and supplying water requires energy. Water use and energy consumption impacts climate and changes in climate impact water availability. The event will discuss our ultimate task, to act responsibly in the face of growing demand for water and energy and the associated global environmental problems of climate change and diminishing freshwater resources. An integrated and sustainable approach for water resource planning and energy usage is needed. We invite all stakeholders to discuss reducing the water footprints for energy development and the energy footprints for water development. The expected output is a .rst approach for developing an integrated water and energy policy formulation that incorporates climate change mitigation and adaptation.
