The aim of the event is to examine the challenges the have emerged since the Water Framework directive was issued and topic areas include:

  • Water Scarcity and Droughts
  • Decision making for climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • Impacts of flooding and risk management
  • Critical water infrastructure and asset management
  • Surface Water management


The two day conference is a joint event between ASTEE – Association Scientifique et Technique pour l’Eau et l’Environnement and CIWEM – Chartered Institution of Water & Environmental Management, supported by the European Water Association. Further details will be posted on the web-sites of CIWEM and ASTEE.


At this stage abstracts are being sort from experts and water professionals who want to give papers at the conference and these should be submitted in either English or French or if possible in both languages to Paul Horton – paul@ciwem.org and/or Francois Mauvais – francois.mauvais@astee.org. Abstracts should be of not more than 250 words and should include the full contact details of the author and any co or joint authors of the papers.

When an oil spill occurs, the challenge is clearing out of the oil fast and secure. Seaswarm is a possible solution to this dilemma. Robotic cleaning instruments absorb the oil and move independently and autonomously. They can communicate between them and coordinate their actions.
